Museum of the Mummies of Ferentillo

In the village of Precetto di Ferentillo, which can also be reached on foot from the Santa Croce farmhouse, the Mummy Museum reveals a fascinating page of history, telling the unique link between life and death through the testimonies of its past inhabitants. The museum is one of the most visited in Umbria and houses the mummified bodies of 24 people, including men, women and children, dating from the 16th-17th centuries.

The causes of the mummification are still not entirely clear, fueling the mystery surrounding this place.

The museum is suitable for all ages and offers various educational activities for children.

The Abbey of San Pietro in Valle in Ferentillo

Situated in a panoramic position 4 km from Casale Santa Croce, San Pietro in Valle Abbey boasts a splendid 8th-century church that enchants visitors with its majesty and the beauty of its Lombard frescoes and sarcophagi. An authentic testimony to medieval art and architecture, a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage Site and national monument.

Please note: in 2024 the church is undergoing restoration.
Public opening hours (admission 3€) are reduced.

We still recommend a visit because the monument fascinates with its elegance and mysticism. In addition, the Abbey San Pietro in Valle houses inside it an evocative Residenza d’Epoca also managed by us, ideal for those who wish to stay overnight in a place steeped in history and art. Guests of Casale Santa Croce will be able to access the Residenza d’Epoca and visit the 12th-century Romanesque cloister and the charming panoramic garden, which are normally reserved areas, by reservation and subject to availability. The Fortresses of Ferentillo: Matterella and Precetto

The fortress of Precetto is located on the left bank of the Nera River and is a typical slope castle, triangular in shape with a square lookout tower at the apex.

The fortress of Mattarella is located on the right bank of the Nera River and has a square keep, with cylindrical bastions.

The two fortresses cannot be visited internally but can be reached by short walksstarting directly from the Santa Croce farmhouse and first reaching the settlements of Matterella and Precetto and from there proceeding through charming alleys and stairways to the imposing fortresses.
